Kimber Defends Yellow In Tense Final Stage As Charlton Takes The Win

Stage 5 of Rás Tailteann 2025 brought the curtain down on a dramatic and high-speed week of racing, with the final 142.8km from Kildare Town to Bective offering a fitting finale. The day belonged to Josh Charlton (Great Britain CT), who stormed clear to take the stage win, but it was George Kimber (Cycling Club Isle of Man) who emerged victorious in the general classification, claiming the Bective Stud Yellow Jersey and the title of Rás Tailteann champion. Stage 4 of Rás Tailteann 2025 brought fireworks and ferocious racing across 128.1km from Ennis to Mountrath, with attacks from the very start and relentless pace all the way to the final climb. In the end, it was George Kimber (Cycling Club Isle of Man) who conquered the decisive Wolftrap ascent and soloed to victory — taking both the stage and the overall lead in this 70th edition of the race.

Stage 3 of Rás Tailteann 2025 delivered drama, attacks, and high-speed action across the Wild Atlantic Way as the peloton tackled a demanding 164km route from Cong to Miltown Malbay. Despite early rain, foggy cliffs, and relentless attacking, it was Tim Shoreman (Wheelbase/Cabtech/Castelli) who sprinted to his second stage victory of the race, backing up his Stage 1 win in style. The 70th edition of Rás Tailteann roared into life today under clear skies and soaring temperatures as 145 riders lined out in Drogheda for Stage 1, racing westwards to Boyle over 155.5km of fast, animated terrain.
It was an explosive start to this historic edition, with attacking racing from the flag. An early eight-man breakaway animated much of the day and featured Peter Cocker (DAS Richardsons), Aaron King (Wheelbase / Cabtech / Castelli), Odhran Doogan (Team Ulster), Owen Wright (Canel’s Java), Robin Fischer (Team Storck-Metropol Cycling), Danylo Riwnyi (Foran CT) and the Team Skyline due of Conn McDunphy and Ronan O’Connor. The 70th edition of the Rás Tailteann will take place from May 21st to May 25th, 2025.

The event will start in the cycling stronghold of Drogheda, Co Louth on Wednesday, May 21st heading westwards to finish in Boyle, Co Roscommon. A transfer to Charlestown for the start of stage two where the riders will take on the infamous Windy Gap and Maumtrasna climbs in the longest of the 2025 Rás Tailteann stages. Another transfer to Co Mayo for the start of stage three, where Cong will welcome the Rás Tailteann. After setting off from Cong, the riders will take in breathtaking scenery along the Wild Atlantic Way before they face the fast finish towards Miltown Malbay in County Clare. The penultimate stage will kick off from Ennis, Co Clare and take on 2 x category three climbs before crossing the category one Wolftrap climb with less than 15KM remaining – will there be enough time to regroup before the finish in Mountrath, Co Laois? The final stage of Rás Tailteann 2025 will kick off in Kildare Town heading across the plains of ‘The Lilywhite County’ before entering Co Meath where again, the winner of Rás Tailteann will be crowned in Bective. The 2025 edition of the race is again five stages and will take on over 760KM along the roads of The Emerald Isle, including 13 categorised climbs.

Bective Stud to Host the Climax of the 70th Rás Tailteann
On Sunday, May 25th, 2025, the 70th edition of Rás Tailteann will reach its thrilling conclusion at Bective Stud, Co. Meath, returning for a second year as the host for the final finish.

After five punishing days and over 760 km of racing—from Drogheda to Boyle, Clifden, Miltown Malbay and Mountrath—the peloton is expected to roll into Bective at approximately 2:00 PM, where they will complete four laps of a 12 km circuit around the local area. More>>>

Final Stage of the 70th Rás Tailteann to Start in Kildare Town
Cairde Rás Tailteann is delighted to announce that the final stage of the 70th edition will start in Kildare Town on Sunday, May 25th, 2025, departing at 12:00 PM from the Market Square. This marks the race’s return to Kildare following last year’s stage finish in the town. More>>>
