Cairde Rás Tailteann is delighted to confirm that Dunboyne, Co. Meath will host the final stage finish of the 2026 Rás Tailteann on Sunday, May 24th, as Ireland's most historic and prestigious stage race reaches its conclusion after five demanding days of racing.
Following a depart from Carlow, the riders will arrive into Dunboyne where they will complete three laps of a finishing circuit before the final stage winner and overall champion of the 2026 Rás Tailteann are crowned.
The final stage will bring the riders through Carlow and Kildare before the race reaches Meath for what promises to be a memorable conclusion to this year's event. While much of the stage is expected to be fast and largely flat, the Category 3 Hill of Allen will provide one final challenge before the riders make their way towards Dunboyne.
Cairde Rás Tailteann would like to sincerely thank Meath County Council, Discover Boyne Valley, local councillors, volunteers and all local organisations assisting with preparations for the event.
Special thanks are also extended to An Garda Siochána, council staff and all those involved in organising road closures, traffic management and stewarding to ensure a safe and successful finish to the race. A massive thank you is also extended to the residents of Dunboyne and the surrounding areas for their patience, understanding and support as preparations continue for the event. Hosting a stage finish of this scale requires significant cooperation from the local community and that support is hugely appreciated by the organising team.
Race Director Ger Campbell said: "We are delighted to bring the final stage finish of the 2026 Rás Tailteann to Dunboyne. The final day of the race always carries huge excitement and with three laps of a finishing circuit in the town, spectators will have a fantastic opportunity to see the riders up close. Dunboyne is a fitting place to bring this year's race to a close and we are looking forward to a brilliant final day."
Emma Gill, Tourism Officer with Discover Boyne Valley, said: "We are delighted to welcome Rás Tailteann to Dunboyne and to the Boyne Valley for the final stage finish of this year's race. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase the area, welcome visitors and celebrate a major sporting occasion in the heart of the community. We look forward to seeing a great turnout and a fantastic atmosphere as the race reaches its conclusion."
Frank O'Regan, stage end organiser, added: "It is a great honour for Dunboyne to host the final finish of Rás Tailteann. The race has such a special place in Irish sport, and there is real excitement locally at the thought of welcoming the riders, teams, officials and supporters to the town.
We would encourage people to come out, line the circuit and help give the 2026 Rás Tailteann the finish it deserves."
A number of temporary road closures and traffic diversions will be in place around Dunboyne on race day to facilitate the event. Residents and motorists are encouraged to follow all signage and steward instructions throughout the afternoon.
